September book suggestions, etc.

What a great turnout tonight!
Thanks to everyone who showed up despite my very uncomfortable chairs :)
We have books picked out for the rest of this year so make sure you check out our schedule in the right hand column. We're quite excited about December!

I tried to write down all of the books people recommended tonight (along with their library link), so enjoy!

The Only Alien on the Planet (by Kristen Randle)
Breaking Rank (by Kristen Randle)
Hannah's List (by Debbie Macomber)
The History of Love (by Nicole Krauss)
The Dark is Rising series (by Susan Cooper)
The Ender's Game (by Orson Scott Card)
The Ender's Shadow (by Orson Scott Card) *everyone recommends reading this one AFTER The Ender's Game
The Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner
The Belgariad series by David Eddings (Book 1: The Pawn of Prophecy)

Recipes

Mint Brownies
(I am SURE this recipe can be lightened up and still taste good...
I just wasn't brave enough to try it this time)

2 c softened margarine/butter
4 c sugar
8 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
3 1/2 c flour
1 1/3 c cocoa powder
2 tsp salt
2 c chopped nuts (optional)

Mint Frosting:
3/4 c softened margarine
1/3 c milk
1 Tbs mint flavoring (or 8 drops peppermint oil)
6 c powdered sugar
green food coloring

Chocolate frosting:
1/2 c margarine/butter
2 c chocolate chips (12 oz bag)

Cream together 2 cups softened margarine/butter, 4 cups sugar, eggs and vanilla. Add flour, cocoa powder, salt and chopped nuts; mix well. Spread into an ungreased 11 x 15 sheet cake pan; bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Cool in a freezer for 20 minutes. Spread mint frosting on cool brownies. Cool again in freezer for 20 minutes. Spread on chocolate frosting.

(I've also posted a few more recipes prepared or mentioned in months past.)
